jazz impressions of new york

Rather than update or modernize the cover for the Dave Brubeck Quartet's 1965 Jazz Impressions of New York album, I opted to root the influence for my re-imagined design in the mid-sixties. There's a bit of Saul Bass and Pablo Ferro in the illustration and lettering, as well as the mid-century typographic sensibilities of the Columbia Records art department. But the double gatefold and designed labels would have certainly made this edition a clear standout from the era.
